Working with Conflict Stories

Clients tell stories about their conflicts to others, and also to themselves. As they repeatedly think and talk about their conflict, their story becomes more simplified and more rigid. Conflict stories tend to structure and distort a client’s perception of their conflict, frequently involving a theme of helplessness. In this course, you will explore the nature of conflict stories and how they tend to work against constructive engagement with conflict. You will also learn some simple strategies to work with others to assist them to explore, better understand, and then expand their conflict story, providing new choices and opportunities for moving forward.
