This book focuses on the importance of curiosity in business, for transformational leadership, and for personal growth.
Hamilton asks:
- How do we recognize the things that hold us back from exploring our curiosity?
- How do we maintain and develop our natural sense of curiosity?
- How do we keep our spotlight bright and ready for deployment?
She describes her goal for the book as: to decipher and simplify the myriad of studies and analyses on the topic, and to provide a clear and concise way to both understand and apply the topic so that people can become:
- More engaged and productive at work,
- More effective leaders who foster a positive work culture that supports improved productivity and engagement, and
- Better-rounded individuals.
Each chapter in part one of this book explores how curiosity is linked to another attribute, including motivation, decision-making, leadership, engagement, intelligence, creativity and innovation, success, age, and emotional intelligence. Part two considers roadblocks to curiosity, including fear, assumptions, technology and our environment.
The final part is about measuring curiosity, and introduces the author’s Curiosity Code Index.
She discusses interviews she has conducted with a range of successful and curious people on her radio talk show Take the Lead, and these are used as case studies and illustrations throughout the book.
